Yes, it’s normal! The light residue is a natural result of the diatomaceous earth. Just wipe your mat with a damp cloth before first use. Small variations, like minor white dots, are part of its unique character and do not affect performance.
Keep your mat fresh by wiping it weekly with a vinegar-water mixture. For light stains, lightly sand and rinse. For heavier stains, gently scrub with a soft brush and non-coloured dishwashing liquid, then rinse.
This mat is designed to last. To minimise stains, we recommend stepping on it only with clean feet. For households concerned about stains, darker-coloured mats may be a better choice. With proper care, including light sanding, it will last for years.

I’ve been using this stone water absorbent mat by my sink for a few weeks now, and it’s honestly made a big difference. It soaks up water really quickly, so no more puddles or drips on my countertop.The stone material feels sturdy and looks really nice too—kind of adds a little natural touch to my kitchen. It dries pretty fast, which helps keep things clean and fresh.It’s easy to clean as well; I just wipe it down or rinse it occasionally, and it’s good as new. If you’re looking for something practical that also looks nice, I’d definitely recommend this mat!
I wish they are a bit bigger and easily stains. However, it is absorbent and does the job. Get yhe darker color for sure. I haven’t tried sanding it yet, to clean… so this review might be updated.
This mat is very water absorbent and your feet will feel dry when you step off the mat. The non slip mat placed under the floor mat makes it not slippery at all. I do prefer a more luxurious feel under my foot when getting out of the shower and also prefer a larger bath mat to move around during the drying process. However, this is a great product, which if you understand what you're getting. is a great alternative to the older bath mat style.
It looks pretty elegant in our tiny bathroom. It is odorless, and it holds heavy amounts of water pretty well. It has an anti-slip carpet that keeps it steady and holds it in place. It is super easy to clean and it dries also very fast. Totally worth it, more if you're tired of traditional carpets/mats that need regular cleaning and smell bad :p
